Gorewada Biopark (Zoo) & Safari Nagpur

About Us

The impressive wildlife and natural history of the central India region is at the heart of the Gorewada project. The Reserve at Gorewada will provide a high-quality and intensely personal wildlife experience involving an intimate immersion in the ecosystems of central India, as if in a National Park guided by skilled rangers.
The North site, ‘The Reserve’ core, an area of approximately 945 hectares, will be dedicated to the display and interpretation of the wildlife and natural history of central India, centred upon the Nagpur region. There will be only minimal development here. The Reserve will be restocked with a wide range of wildlife.

Gorewada Landscape

Benchmarking Local Performance - The Gondwana will need top-quality landscaping and
horticultural expertise throughout the project. In providing this, it can have an impact on the local
landscaping, horticultural and forestry industries, in particular encouraging the industry to pay more
attention to indigenous plants and opportunities for revegetation and reforestation. By showcasing
exemplary landscape management, the project will also

raise the performance benchmarks for the local industry and by employing the very latest technology,
from Green Roof and Green Wall to Soil and Planting Media technology, it will open windows to new
horticultural techniques.
• In-house Plant Nursery - It will be vital both in terms of cost management and security of supply for
the project to have its own in-house Plant Nursery and this can also act as a demonstration and
training hub for the entire region’s horticultural industry, building local capacity.
The site itself will also benefit from The Gondwana’s re-introduction of indigenous vegetation to a
proportion of about 40%.
Education
‘Inspire, Motivate, Empower’ is a common motto at modern zoos today. Zoos have a unique opportunity
to get the nature conservation message across to the masses. They can convert destroyers of nature
into saviours. The Gondwana should be no exception. Interpretive materials and signage throughout the
attraction will be mindful of the need to educate, albeit sometimes through fun. Children’s facilities will be
particularly carefully designed to teach fundamental biology as well as nature conservation, with plenty of
hands-on activities. Features such as the Children’s Nature Park, Bamboo Maze and Mouse Town, and
ancillary infrastructure such as the Theatrette will all be geared towards this goal. For adults too, features
such as the showcasing of Ethno-botany in the shape of agricultural crops and Ayurvedic/medicinal
plants, and other plants historically associated with humankind, will also be enlightening.

Aims & Objectives
